Reflectance Measurement of Artificially Induced Ultraviolet Radiation Stress on Cotton Leaves
نویسندگان
چکیده
Cotton plants (Gossypium hirsutum L. cv 'McNair 220') at the third true leaf stage were exposed to ultraviolet radiation (UVR) for seven days and compared with controls that received only natural light. Light reflectance was spectrophotometrically measured over the 0.5-2.5 #m waveband on nonexcised leaves immediately after treatment and again seven days later. Spectral measurements were also conducted on plant leaves that received only natural light. Leaves of cotton plants exposed to UVR had less near-infrared reflectance at the 0.85-/~m wavelength than control leaves. This was apparently caused by altered leaf size and structure. The UVR-treated leaves were thinner, smaller in area, and had a different mesophyll structure than control leaves. Results indicate that reflectance measurements at the 0.85-#m wavelength may be usehtl to detect UVR<lamaged cotton plants.

Comparison of Ultraviolet Protection Factor of Pure Cotton and Cotton Coated with Titanium Dioxide Nanoparticles using the Electrospinning Method with Two Ultraviolet-C Generators
Introduction: Protection against harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation (UV) is measured under Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) scale. The utilization of protective clothing is the best way to deal with the damage caused by ultraviolet radiation. The purpose of this study was to compare the ultraviolet ray protective factor of pure cotton and cotton coated with ti...

Current conditions of 2–11 kJ m day of UV-B radiation and temperatures of >308C during flowering in cotton cultivated regions are projected to increase in the future. A controlled environment study was conducted in sunlit growth chambers to determine the effects of UV-B radiation and temperature on physiology, growth, development and leaf hyperspectral reflectance of cotton. Plants were grown i...

The potential impact of an increase in solar ultraviolet-B (UV-B) radiation due to human activity on higher plants has been the subject of many studies. Little work has been carried out so far on cotton responses to enhanced UV-B radiation. The objective of this study was to determine whether or not the current and projected increases in UV-B levels affect cotton growth and development, and to ...
متن کاملMorphological and Biochemical Responses of Basil Plant Under Ultraviolet Radiation-B and Deficit Irrigation Under Greenhouse Conditions
Environmental stresses such as deficit irrigation and ultraviolet radiation can influence plant growth and development. Among the environmental variables, ultraviolet radiation is an important factor in plant response to other stresses, such as deficit irrigation. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of ultraviolet B radiation (UV-B), irrigation stress and combined effects o...
متن کاملEffect of RotyIenchulus reniformis on reflectance of cotton plant leaves.
Differences between light reflectance from leaves of cotton (Gossypiurn hirsutum) plants grown with a low- or no-nematode (Rotylenchulus reniformis) population (nonstressed), and from leaves grown with a high nematode population (stressed) were measured in field and greenhouse experiments. Reflectance was measured spectrophotometrically in the laboratory on single leaves and spectroradiometrica...
